About Rain

WHO

The Records and Inspection Network (RAIN) for storm water was developed by New Blue Technology, LLC, a partnership of environmental consultants and cutting-edge web application and software designers.

WHAT

RAIN is state-of-the-art software which enables storm water inspectors to efficiently perform site inspections and provides document storage required by today's more stringent storm water management regulations.

RAIN uses site-specific, interactive inspection forms to fully integrate data for BMP performance tracking, monthly reporting and site evaluation.

The sophisticated system is a two-part coordination of software installed on a rugged field-tested tablet PC or laptop and web-based data storage and access coupled by a hands-free database synchronization process.

RAIN makes storm water compliance and project communication hassle-free with automatic report generation, electronic notification and document storage.

Top ↑

WHEN

RAIN was released in early 2008 after thousands of hours of research, development and testing by environmental professionals, software and web designers, and members of the construction, development and regulatory fields.

Top ↑

WHERE

RAIN was developed and designed to meet the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) and South Carolina requirements, but is flexible enough to be applied to any federal, state or local storm water monitoring policies.

HOW

RAIN is utilized by users with assigned levels of accessibility. Inspectors have the ability to conduct inspections with site-specific forms using a tablet PC, wirelessly transfer and integrate photographs which are electronically "connected" to their respective BMPs, and wirelessly print a field inspection report using an optional rugged mobile field unit.

Once in range of internet connectivity, the tablet is synchronized with the server to upload data taken from the field. Upon completion of the synch, all identified users involved with the site automatically receive e-mails notifying them that the most recent data is available on-line. There is no more need to fax or manually e-mail individual reports; they are all in one place! This e-mail broadcast function is also applicable to any agency-required monthly reporting.

WHY

RAIN was developed to supply a demand created by stricter requirements of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's NPDES regulations and subsequent more stringent requirements by individual states. The increased demands required by the agencies proved to be a significant burden on permittees with regard to not only labor but also paperwork. RAIN was developed to eliminate added burden and improve communication among parties involved with projects.
